About AMCEN

The African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) is a permanent forum where African ministers of the environment discuss mainly matters of relevance to the environment of the continent.

AMCEN was established in 1985 when African ministers met in Egypt and adopted the Cairo Programme for African co-operation. The Conference is convened every second year.

The 15th session of AMCEN was held from 2 to 6 March 2015 in Cairo, Egypt under the theme: Managing Africa's Natural Capital for Sustainable Development and Poverty Eradication.

The sixth special session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) will be held from 16 to 19 April 2016 in Cairo, Egypt under the theme: "Agenda 2030 and Paris Agreement: From policy to implementation in Africa".
